Personal Stories

At Home with the Malones | March 2019

April 2, 2019

I’m so excited to start a new series on the blog called “At Home with the Malones.” Each month, I’ll be sharing the latest happenings with my own little family, as well as showing you more of my own personal family images.

While serving so many families as a lifestyle newborn and family photographer brings me so much joy, my truest passion lies in documenting my own family story. I realized, though, that I have not done a very good job of showing you how I practice what I preach! This series is meant to show you how we document our own family story through lifestyle images, as well as give you a glimpse into the workings of the Malone family!

Life Lately

We’ve been enjoying getting outside again now that the weather is FINALLY shaping up here in Greenville. For a while, I thought the rain would never end.

This month we took James to the Airport park and I shot a roll of film while she played. You’d probably think that as a full time photographer I’d choose a hobby that did NOT involve photography – but believe it or not, my hobby is shooting with FILM! This particular day was the first sunny day in what felt like FOREVER, and I knew it would be a great opportunity to play with one of my favorite film stocks – Ektar 100. Here are a few snaps from our day at the park!

Film is such a fun medium to play with. I still can’t strike the urge to look at the back of the camera every few shots! When I shoot a roll of film, I have to package it up and send it off to a professional lab for developing. My particular lab is in California, so these photos travel a long way to come to fruition! When the lab receives them, they process them and “scan” them in, making them digital files which are then delivered to me via download. It always feels a little like Christmas morning when I get the e-mail that my film scans are ready!

James also started ballet this month which has been… interesting. She looks mighty cute in her little outfit, but so far she hasn’t really enjoyed the fact that I leave her in a room full of strangers for 45 minutes at a time… imagine that! We might be a little too young for organized activities like ballet class right now, but we’ll keep trying. In the meantime, it made for some cute photos in my studio!

Baby #2

March brought weeks 17, 18 and 19 of pregnancy with baby #2! We are expecting a little boy this August, and are documenting my growing belly the same way we did with our daughter.

We took a picture of my belly every week starting at week 17… but we also took a picture of my husband every week being goofy! This time we are obviously adding James into the mix and it’s proving to be pretty hilarious so far.

Somehow, Jim and James wore the same outfits on the same day a week apart so our 17 and 18 week shots look crazy similar. Week 19, James wanted to participate with BOTH of us… it is what it is for these, and they’re really fun to capture!

And just for fun, a look at 19 weeks pregnant with James…

What We’re Looking Forward To

April is an exciting month for us! I have a birthday coming up in just a couple of weeks, and we’ll also have James home for a week for Spring Break. We’ll also visit family for Easter down in Augusta, GA.

I took J out a few days ago to snap some photos of her in one of the outfits I’ve narrowed down for her for Easter! We have been graciously gifted some gorgeous dresses in her size as hand me downs from her cousins and I can’t pick a final Easter dress to save my life! They’re all just too dang precious.

We also have our anatomy scan for baby boy very soon, and are praying we see a healthy, thriving little boy growing in there at that appointment!
