At Home with the Malones – Introducing Riley

September 11, 2019

We are so thrilled to announce the arrival of our son, John “Riley” Malone, who was born on August 15th.

Riley was born via scheduled c-section at Patewood Memorial in Greenville. After being a visitor there dozens and dozens of time and photographing so many babies in the hospital, it was so crazy to actually be a patient! We had an incredible experience at Patewood – the delivery itself, the staff, and all the nurses were so amazing.

We were lucky enough to have the talented Charlotte Conklin with us for Riley’s birth, and she captured the most incredible images of his arrival.

I will never forget the moment he was born, and am so grateful to have these images to treasure. I left for the hospital that morning in tears – filled with grief that my time as a mommy to just James was over, excitement and anticipation of welcoming a new little one, and an intense fear that I may not be able to love another baby as much as I love James. The second I laid eyes on him, my heart burst into a million pieces, and my love for him was so intense and overwhelming. We had a son! We were overcome with emotion, and couldn’t believe that this perfect little boy was ours.

All birth images below are by the talented Charlotte Conklin Photography.

My c-section experience and recovery were about a thousand times better this time. It’s amazing what a difference it makes to not labor for 36 hours before major abdominal surgery! Ha! I’m anxious to get back to my normal activity level, and to be able to pick up James, but overall I am feeling REALLY good, and am so grateful to have had such a peaceful experience this second time around.

We invited Charlotte back the next day to capture some photos of our new family of four! James is OBSESSED with her “Riley boy” and can’t get enough, even though her “helping” is a bit intense at times. She constantly wants to hold him, soothe him and “give he a hug” in her own sweet little words.

We are feeling so grateful for the addition of our baby boy, who has completed our family in the best way!

I also couldn’t help but take him into my little studio to photograph him at 8 days old. I probably had NO business doing this so soon after surgery, but I couldn’t help it. I’m obsessed with this sweet and simple style of photography for newborns, and couldn’t resist photographing our sweet Riley in the same way I photograph so many of your beautiful babies. My only regret is that I didn’t have this skill set when James was a newborn! We’ve already hung several of these images around our home and are enjoying them so much.

Thank you to each of you for your patience as we settle in and adjust to life as a new family of four! I’ll be savoring every bit of my maternity leave with Riley between now and the end of October, and will be returning to work with such renewed joy and passion for documenting your sweet little ones after doing so for my own family!
