2015 was an awesome year, and just the start of this photography business I am building. When I first started out, I questioned whether or not families were the right audience for me. As I am sure you know, children can be unpredictable. Some sessions go smoothly and the kids are happy and smiling, while others involve tears, potty accidents, and pure chaos.
But with each family session I did in 2015, I learned more and more that I LOVE photographing families, and especially children. These little souls are such gifts, and it is an honor to photograph them. Despite the chaos of some sessions, I wouldn’t change a thing. I love the chaos, the joy, the tantrums, the giggles… all of it.
I’ve deemed 2016 as my “year of authenticity.” In my personal life this means standing up for myself, having the hard conversations, making decisions that feel right, and exploring and sharing the parts of my story that make me who I am.
For my photography business, it means more candid moments, more connection, and more real-ness. It means getting to know these families, and delivering my best work with each and every session. I am 100% certain that photographing families is what I am meant to do and I can’t wait to see what 2016 brings.
The following photos are a behind the scenes look at my last session of 2015. With the help of a glowing iPhone screen and Anna’s favorite monkey, we lured lots of sweet smiles out of this girl! In a rare moment, I was on the other side of the camera, getting to love on this little one, whose mom I have known since our freshman year of high school over 14 years ago!
