Every single time I have the opportunity to meet a brand new baby and am invited to the lives of new or growing families at such a special and intimate time, I am so overwhelmed with emotion – the joy, love and excitement are so palpable, and I cannot believe I get to call this “work.”
Just last week, I headed up to Greenville Memorial to photograph brand new baby boy Ross Evans for his “Fresh 48” in hospital newborn session. I say this every time, but my goodness, was a gorgeous baby boy! After an early induction, long labor, and surprise emergency c-section (they had Ross out in 4 minutes!), mama and daddy were so relieved and happy that Ross was finally here and healthy as can be.
These in hospital sessions are truly my favorite, and I feel so called to do them. They capture the pure joy and beauty of bringing such a tremendous gift into this world, and that realness and authenticity are what I love about the power of photographs.
When I sent Julie a few sneak peek photos, I shared some sweet portraits of Ross, and a few snaps of them as a family, as well as one particular image of her with her brand new baby boy. In this image, I see a glowing mama who demonstrated so much strength and power during her labor and delivery. I see a mom who is relieved to be holding her baby boy, and so in love with this sweet little life she gets to call her own. When Julie shared this on her Instagram page a few days later, I just loved what she wrote.
To me, her words captures the essence of why I do what I do. Fresh 48 photos don’t show mom’s with rested eyes, perfect hair, or make up ready for a night out on the town. But they do show mama’s glowing in the glory of their precious babies. They show mom’s overcome with sleeplessness, and overwhelmed to their core with love and joy. They are my very favorite photos, and I am so happy that Julie has this one and the many others to treasure!
